WaveShark: Wireshark for the radio spectrum
Channelizes a wide span once and decodes every signal in it at the same time. ISM sensors, ADS-B, AIS, APRS, pagers, DMR, TETRA, LoRa and more, from a €30 RTL-SDR up to a full duplex LimeSDR.
WaveShark is an OSINT tool for radio. Leave a cheap SDR on a band and it tells you what is transmitting around you, instead of what is on the one frequency somebody already told you about: which sensors are in the building, which vehicles keep passing, which remotes and door contacts are in use on the street, who is paging whom, and what is overhead.
Decoding does not follow the dial. The whole sampled span is channelized once and every scanner inside it runs all the time, so a sensor that transmits once a minute is caught whether or not you were looking at it. Every burst is kept, decoded or not, with its envelope, instantaneous frequency and a hex dump, and unknown signals get their coding inferred and bits sliced out so they can be recognised again and reverse engineered.
It is written in Rust, with the radio drivers built in rather than linked, so an RTL-SDR or Airspy needs no vendor library. Speech is transcribed by a local model on an NVIDIA GPU, Metal on macOS, or the CPU. Builds ship for Linux on x86_64 and arm64 (Raspberry Pi 4 and 5 included), Windows and macOS.
ISM devices
45 decoders at 433, 868 and 915 MHz: weather stations, thermometers, TPMS, door contacts, gate remotes and shelf labels.
Aircraft and ships
ADS-B and Mode S on a map with a track table, ACARS and VDL Mode 2 datalinks, and AIS vessel positions.
Digital voice
DMR, TETRA and M17: who called whom on which talkgroup, with speech where the codec allows it.
Data and messaging
POCSAG pagers, APRS, LoRaWAN, Meshtastic and MeshCore, wireless M-Bus meters and RS41 radiosondes.
Audio and pictures
WFM with stereo and RDS, NFM, AM, SSB and CW on several channels at once, SSTV, and TV off a DVB-T multiplex.
Hardware
RTL-SDR, HackRF, Airspy, LimeSDR and ADALM-PLUTO, or a remote tuner over rtl_tcp, SpyServer, KiwiSDR or IQStream.
